Sorry, I don't have the Mpeg on my file any more, I swapped my 1100S for a VFR800 last September (good move!) The play you have at that mileage is almost certainly due to the pivot bearings at the bevel box end. You can adjust them if you like but they'll go completely within the next 1000 miles, yo...

At 36k - have you ever changed the brake fluid? It's hygroscopic (absorbs water) and if it gets contaminated the water will expand and cause the brakes to overheat as the pads come into contact with the discs.

Oyster, give MotorWorks a bell and they'll send you all the right size bleed nipples you need to replace the daft things BMW saw fit to put on there! Cost me about £11 when I bought mine for the brakes and the clutch.

Check the rear paralever bearings again Ade. You only need a bit of play there to make the bike feel "odd"

Dan is of course right Adam, I did indeed have to cut the up pipe to get the silencers to go over the 2 locating pegss fully. After the intiial fitting the damn thing came off the pegs and was hanging on by a wing and a prayer. I took about an inch off it and have had no problems since. The daft thi...

Adam, my Zachs has been on for a while now. Like you I replaced the cat because the thing was ratting like a good 'un. I also noticed a severe drop in power / MPG when it started rattling. It's beeen on for a couple of months now - including a 2500 mile tour of Europe, if you asked me to put the cat...

Well, the K&N finally arrived last night, seems there was bit of a mix up with the guys understanding of an what an 1100S IS, which is why it took so long. Still for £15 I ain't complaining. It's in now and I've left the induct piping off to see what happens - So far the noise from the sucky in ...

The optimax thing could be something to avoid Rob, My bike runs like shit on it - vibrates like a Ramapant Rabbit! (wot's one o' those then?) whenever I use it. Gives bloody good MPG tho. Missus Darth's Wampant Wabbit runs rough on it too strangely enough! But she does have the petrol version  ...

Steve - I'm a fifty something old git and still found the bike 'orrible to ride with the bars lifted  Each to their own I suppose. Just a note of caution, if you drilled down through the top yoke keep an eye on it. Depending on the casting process the holes could cause stress fractures in the a...

Just something that occured to me about this topic. If you,ve never removed the gearbox drain plug before, it helps to go a for a nice long run first to get everything nice and hot. If you try to remove the drain when it's cold you'll find it wont budge....Far easier when it's hot Itheankyew!! Dave 8)

Hi Ian, a lot of the more common and most expensive things that go wrong with the S centres around the rear bevel box: Paralever bearings, Crown wheel and pinion bearings, Oil seals etc. Some go forever without a hitch (apparently!) but a lot also succumb at quite low mileages. Electrical problems s...
