I definately agree with the comments made so far, and that price is very good! :D I owed a R1100S for 7 years and put 70,000 miles on it. I've now got a 12S, and this is what I would look out for. 1. Go for Sports Package inc heated grips. 2. Rear hugger is essential. Don't worry about removing rear...

Just completed 10,000 on mine.

Front end is holding up better around bottom of folks.

Engine cases are losing paint around bolts and immediately behind back wheel.

Other than that, no problems over the last 18 months of constant use, including track day and trip to France.

Having toured Normandy a few times, I can recommend a great bike friendly accomodation. It's close to Le Mans, Falise, Honfleur and is in the heart of Normandy. It's called Le Pressoir, and is run by Rob and Maggie Hind. They regularly look after small groups of bikers. Le Pressoir a La Thibaudiere ...

BMW stand facilitates rear wheel removal, no worries. With care you can also use to remove front as well. (Jack under sump, wood to protect etc etc.) I made a bracket for my Tax Disc from mild steel. It attaches to the nearside subframe rear. Keeps it tucked out the way, not keen on it attached to e...

I've been using this tyre for a while now, and it's performance in the wet is very good. Whilst this isn't a 'full on' sporty tyre, it performs very well and offers great value for money. Typically with modern tyres, there really aren't any bad ones from the main factories. However, a lot of the 'fe...

All joking aside, my 60K 1100s always used plenty of oil except when in France. Why?

None of that stop-start-stop-start ball ache you have to put up with in the SE of England! :D

I could feel my bike positively depressed the moment we hit the M20 on the way back.

I would recomend fitting on the right hand side of the fairing, tucked where the BMW badge is fixed to the fairing stay. There are holes there where you can bolt a small bracket to fit the horn. There is plenty of room for a bigger horn. You will need to run longer wiring around the relay box, but i...

Ditto the hugger and BWM tail pack. :D

I went for the BMW 'lifter' in the end. Does the job, is secure and well made.

Bennetts managed a reasonable £330 for my S. :D

Croydon area, 38 years old and 4 years NCD.

They don't consider my workshop to be a garage so that up's the prem a bit.

Thanks Sandbar

The additional instructions make sense, but weren't necessary in my case? :? I managed to remove mine ok.

It was 'fiddly' but doable with patience.

Yeah, for the 1200S it bolts onto the rear drive.

Not as difficult as it sounds. Wheel out jobby. Move a wire and boly on.

Good instructions came with mine, took some advice from site and took my time! :D

Hi Brian, Welcome to Boxertrix.com :D Essential mods. There are many, but here is what I ended up doing with my S before I sold it. (51K owned 6 years) Sensible modifications included. Ohlins shocks fitted front and rear this year. Considerable expensive, but worth every penny! :D Stainless hoses fr...
