Looks like not much more than a £90 variable resistor.

Re: battery booster/ starter
Not a Renault/Nissan perchance? Also, regarding those boost starters, theres a big difference between starting a car with a flat battery and a knackered one. Yep, Nissan Juke. I've read that the OEM (Fiamm) were noted for failing Yes, quite common, but it's not a problem exclusive to that manufactu...

Re: battery booster/ starter
Batteries do still go downhill slowly, but some also suffer internal shorts and open circuits. Thing is with modern cars, they generally start on the button, so you don't usually know they've failed until they have nothing left to give, whereas in the good old days when you had to crank a bit longer...

Re: R12S parts availability
Thanks for the replies so far. Before I give Motorrad in Chester a try as suggested is there anywhere on t’internet that gives part numbers and diagrams? I’ve done a search and couldn’t find much. The seat cowl is easy to describe over the phone but the mirror part may not be :| Did you use realoem...

Re: Is this normal ?
From the fault description I'd have said starter motor itself (I know you've replaced the solenoid, but that's not usually common practice with this type of starter, which is essentially the same as on a car), or a bad engine earth, however... If you can replicate the fault, it should be fairly stra...

HID and LED bulbs.
What do people tend to run these days? In the interests of experimentation I bought a couple of sets of LED bulbs from ebay - the nighteye fan cooled jobbies. The H7 in the main beam is awesome - really lights up the road, but the H1 in the dip is not so impressive. No real intensity, and doesn't se...

Re: WANTED: R1100s rear shock.
Many thanks to xbpod for letting me have his old shock, extraordinarily good of you. I will pay it forward. It's now fitted, and has confirmed my suspicions that the old one was never right, despite having allegedly been rebuilt. Now I understand how stable these bikes actually are. The old one had ...

Re: WANTED: R1100s rear shock.
I have one in my garage that had done 25,000 miles when I removed it. Not in brilliant condition, but you are welcome to it until you get something better. That sounds great, thanks, I'll drop you a PM. Hey Paul, Turns out he just sold it :( Sorry for the false alarm! No problem, I appreciate the h...

WANTED: R1100s rear shock.
Despite allegedly having been rebuilt a short while before I purchased the bike (or maybe because of!), my standard rear shock pumped it's seal out yesterday. Was an interesting ride home.
I'm after a rear shock of any variety, anything considered.
Thank you.

Re: How long is a modern Beemer designed to last ?
I think the problem BMW have is that nearly everything used to be massively over-engineered, and would last a lifetime. Times have changed, the brand has had to change. From my perspective (over 20 years as a senior technician in a BMW car dealership), although things still tend to be pretty much at...

Thanks guys.
I've just about finished the number plate mount, indicators and new wiring for both. Unfortunately things happen slowly here, but I'll get some pictures up of the end result soon.

Re: How long do oe throttle cables last ?
Mine's on 64k, looks like the original.
Anyone else feel that the throttle on these bikes (1100s in my case) is excessively stiff? Still nice and smooth, and returns properly, just feels like excessive effort is needed compared to other bikes I've owned.
