Don't forget that the first cars had chaindrive,too...The Honda S800 even still in the 60's..
But even with a scott-broiler the chains are a pain and thing of the past as they are dirty, have to adjusted and especially on twins with irregular power pulses or todays super strong fours rarely last more ...

The S' dilemma...

Hallo Kieran
What you describe is not only true for australia...
If you ride only solo the R1200S is an improvement over the R1100S due to a better power to weight ratio.
But that's it.The rest is an unfortunate shame due to the marketing gurus with their sport, sport, sport sheme...
Hope for ...

Ja the germans always try to reinvent the wheel but then without them the world would be a poorer place. No motorcycles, trucks or cars since they invented gas/otto and diesel engines. No heroin or cocaine
no communism or national socialism.
No boxer engined twins...
No EVO ABS...

Al I thought I already gave the guide,it is that simple...
The only thing I might add is the 6 bleeder nipples on the ABS unit.
4 on the last row two in the first.
The two in the first are the non-logical ones...That means that the opposite of the two will bleed front/rear while the 4 in the last ...

Man of Mystery,my R1100S was lovely. The centerstand was redundant...
No problem to take it off with two bolts and one spring to fiddle with. But it was a problem with the R1200S to make it not a OPTION for a lot riders who think about the centerstand as not redundant but very practical...People like ...

11 vs 12 S...

Fact is that the 12S has more power and is lighter which makes it sportier.A lot of R1100S owners wanted a lighter R1100S with more poke.So far so good. But they did not want all the other stuff that made the R1200S compared to the R1100S less practical and therefore less attractive. That is why the ...

My dutch friend I agree with you that if you want to ride fast through long sweepers like on a trackday the R1200S will be the better tool than the R1200R.But the R1200R is faster and easier to ride on real roads;bumpy and twisty like in the alps...
I disagree that the R1200S handes any better than ...
