In addition, for your France trip; just take a litre with you. That's what I used to do. 1 liter? What on earth do you need such an amount of oil for? For my annual 1-week tour to France or Italy which spans over 2500 kms I take 250 ml of oil with me. And most of that goes back home with me ... Brg...

Just to mention the fork bottoms from Italy cost over 1000 euros per pair right? The sliding tube of the HP2S here in Germany costs EUR 1280 EUR per pair ... And a more cost effective solution would be this: http://www.wrs.sm/it/prodotti-wrs-attacchi-radiali/10185-coppia-flange-attacco-radiale-100mm...

Hi John, maybe you didn't brake late and hard enough? All I can say is that those (back here in Germany) involved in racing with their 12s did either change the fork to that of the HP2S, or used radial mount adapters, or have tried to lay their hands on Brembo P4 calipers which were made speci...

Other than just to be different - one has to ask why bother? The bike with standard brakes will already out-brake Super Sport 600's on a race track, even with the extra 50kg or 60kg weight its hauling. I disagree. The stock brakes are not bad but at the same time not that durable. Particularly on t...

I would suggest to give it a try although I don't know if the clamp of the lower fork bridge is sufficient to prevent the fork-leg from turning. Have a look at the inside of the fork if there are no seals/plastic parts. You need to apply some serious heat and parts may get damaged. Hence I suggest t...

That would be the brutal and destructible solution ... But obviously a solution.

I think the hardest part will be to suitably clamp the fork legs in order to be able to apply the necessary force. Also heating up the fork legs will not be easy as aluminium is a good heat transmitter. Maybe with a blow-torch?

There has been a kinda debate about this here in Germany. I recall one user here had been able to remove the fork bottoms with increadible difficulty. Apparently they are threaded (fine-pitch thread) and glued in place. Hence some serious heating and considerable force is required to take things apa...

Hi Steve,

if the bike is running fine I would not bother as well. Also since there are no updates for many years (the 12S is out of production for over 7 years) it would be worthwhile checking if there is any update at all available ...

Well to be honest we are (we were 3 comrads) a little advanced in age and thus used to some comfort. Hence no camping. We stayed once (at lake generva) in very nice b/b and the rest in small 3 star hotels (mostly logis de france).

Hi Al, if its def a 11S rim then its fairly easy. You just need appropriate shims or not. The different rims: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.do?model=0432&mospid=51678&hg=36&fg=31&lang=enUS Try to mount the rim you have and see if the disc touches anything or not ... Brgds Oliver

Hello Al, that is a bit complicated as the R1100S rims look similar to those of the K1200RS (aka flying brick), Rockster and R1150 models ... The 1100S was available with a 5" rim and at a surcharge with a 5.5" rim. The disc (and ABS ring) were fixed on the rim. Other models had the disc f...
