Re: Tank knee pads
I'd recommend against the storm grip style ones if you're just doing it for protection as they can tear into your leathers. I use them on my track bike but for leg grip (and accept some wear on my leathers). Still, I cut them myself on my spare 1100S fairings and they're easy to do so don't feel ner...

Re: London Emission Zone
Lorries have to be Euro 6 compliant now to enter the LEZ or the registered owner has a fee to pay. Not sure about older buses. I think the level of pollution is simply down to the sheer volume of traffic. I'm fortunate that I don't have to drive into London now - absolutely hated it as, I think do ...

Re: London Emission Zone
It's silly. Motorcycles, albeit polluting in themselves are part of the solution. Their levels of pollution in a congested city are far lower than cars by nature of the fact that they don't sit in traffic. Agree as would most reasonable Londoners. By far the biggest problem is lorries and ol...

Re: London Emission Zone
It's utterly ridiculous. My 1150GS needs to pay the charge but 1100S doesn't and they're pretty much the same engine! If anything the extra power in the 1100S will make it polute more. My R6 which is the cheapest to tax, so presumably the least polluting still has to pay too.

Re: Safety tip for bmw system cases
Neat idea but I've genuinely never heard of the system panniers randomly falling off, and have never come remotely close to experiencing it myself!

Re: New tyre time
I have the Maxxis Supermax on my track bike and they're decent. I've been told the reason they're cheap is they can't handle the number of heat cycles compared to bigger brands so they may go off sooner. By Damoace's accounts our beemers would benefit from something a bit stiffer than the Maxxis tyr...

There's a couple of OEM ones on eBay for around £100, or you could hold out for an aftermarket one but you might be waiting a while! Probably much better options than trying to fix your old one.

Re: Engine bars or covers
My GS had H&B bars on it when I bought it. They're good if you think the bike might often be on its side as they make it easier to pick up and stop any part of the bike touching down. Negative points are they made the bike a few inches wider each side which when filtering in central London isn't...

Re: Cheap Adjustable clipons for R1100S?
I forgot to mention, I was looking at a youtube vid of someone replacing R11s handlebars, and I noticed there were holes in the bars with wires threaded through them. I don't know what the wires were for, but could they be routed over a new set of bars? They're for the heated grips (if you have the...

Re: when you buy a bike......
In terms of the chip, while you're poking around the alarm have a look at the unit the motronic chip sits in. It's sealed around the edges with silicon normally, which needs cutting when replacing the chip. If your unit isn't sealed you will almost certainly have a different chip.

I consider myself a pro at stripping it down having done it so many times!
The GS is much easier as there's a built-in tank-stand:

I don't know how critical the exact type of Harpic is, pretty sure it's just the acid reacting with the rust on the pipes, nothing more complex than that!

Re: Header cleaning ... result
I did the headers on my BCR a few months ago and they came up a treat. This is just after brushing on, a light scrubbing and rinsing them off. I could go over them again with autosol and more elbow grease and they'd be almost back to new. A before and after: http://i.imgur.com/fM7nm8Cl.jpg
