A word of advice, even though you do not own the bike still fill in the NIP as not doing so is a separate offence... Yeah, did that before posting my minor rant on here: filled out the NIP, included copies of the DVLA letter thanking me for notifying them and the letter from Bluecycle.com which sta...

Twice the speed limit on a wreck I don't possess?

Blimey. Just got a NIP through from Derbyshire Constabulary. Apparently I was doing 56mph in a 30 limit on the A624 in Glossop 6 days ago. I find that quite impressive, as the bike they say I did it on was the one I wrote off 2 months ago, and the DVLA wrote back to me precisely a month ago today to...

Back on the road

Well, I've just put a deposit on a 2000 model (W plate) 1100S in black. :D Apparently it'll be ready on the 15th, as it still needs a 12K mile service, a new tyre or two, and a couple of other bits. The wife's also just bought me a new set of Arlen Ness leathers, to replace the textile suit the frie...

Well, Norwich Union got back to me: total loss. :( So, looks like I'll be searching for something new/different. Maybe with my offroad jaunt I should be looking at a GS? :? This is the point the regrets and "what if"s are really starting to kick in. Thanks to a few of you here, I'd just ma...

Speedy recovery on the minor injuries. I'm sure you'll have a few 'what if...' thoughts on reflection. Another one on the road to a 1200? Yep, been through all the "what if"s; not so much induced by my own injuries but by the sorry look of the bike when I went to reclaim some bits. As for...

Can I have your tool-kit? :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :P I'd say "sure", but my toolkit is about as incomplete as you could imagine. Not only is the wheel nut wrench missing (bike didn't come with a centre stand), but half of the allen keys too. Wish I'd checked when I bought the thing. Oh, and ...

Thanks to you all for the kind words. Hoping they don't write the thing off, simply because it's less hassle to get them to fix it rather than try to do it myself after buying back the salvage. Glad you're OK - driving at night is difficult at the best of times I find, especially with the stock S ca...

Nadgers

Well, finally binned it. Riding back to hotel in Abingdon at ~11:30pm last Wednesday, along the perfectly unlit A415, and failed to make what turned out to be a rather pathetic bend in the road. Target fixated on the grass verge and after a bit of cross-country wall-of-death, bike stopped dea...

As Harry mentioned, it shouldn't be too unstable if the bolts are screwed in fully - assuming, of course, the new bolts you bought don't have thicker heads than the originals. I find the bike needs a good shove to get it off the stand.

I think I'm gonna "do a Gus", and try painting the fork lowers with smooth Hammerite. In black. Never did like that silver BMW use (although that could be partially because it wouldn't stay on).

Doesn't show up in the RAC vehicle search: http://www.rac.co.uk/web/vehiclechecks/dvla_lookup/ My bike doesn't show up on that either - and I think it's mine, at least it was the last time I looked. ;) Mine neither... although it's not that it's not in the database, per se, but more that the RAC si...

I could be way off base here (in which case my guess will serve to shoot down an urban myth), but I'd say it was the cat. From what I've heard if they get too hot, often when the bike runs out of fuel, it screws (melts?) them and they choke the engine. As I say, though, it's all hearsay on my part.....
